This exhibit explores artistic representations of people affected by rare genetic disorders and the intersectionality of their conditions with other facets of family, community and social life, through the lens of storytelling. Additionally, the space will host a number of workshops exploring different topics and practices, including anti-ableism, accessibility in the body/society, somatic movement, dance, and a primer in the study of narrative medicine led by alumni of Columbia’s School of Narrative Medicine.

Workshops
Embodied Inclusion
Led by Andrew Golibersuch and Carl Sigmond
We all have complex relationships with our own bodies, which greatly influences how we relate to ourselves and to our surroundings.
Embodied Inclusion is an anti-ableism workshop that creates a safer space to explore the connections we have with parts of ourselves (physical, emotional, mental and otherwise) with which we may have a challenging relationship or history. Through a series of embodied practices and group discussions, we will look at how we can better welcome those parts of ourselves to show up more wholly, and then from there, offer the same both with and in another person. Together we will focus on individual and dyadic work focused around themes of social justice, anti-ableism, and radical self acceptance, along with discussion about how these concepts can impact our communities.
This 2h 45m workshop is appropriate for people of all abilities and backgrounds. Please communicate any access needs you may have ahead of time.

Through a series of relational games played with each other, open group discussions, and an interactive exploration of the gallery, we will explore how curiosity, assumption-making, and self-expression have the power to affect and empower our experiences.
